Town adjusting snow removal operations

Continued excessive snowfall and overworked snowplow operators has forced the Town of Parry Sound to make changes to their snow removal operations.

That’s according to Director of Public Works Mike Kearns who spoke about the towns plans for snow removal at a meeting on Feb. 18.

“We are going to be concentrating on removing snow from more streets. So you may not see the entire bank disappear as you did at the start of the snow removal,” said Kearns.
“The goal will be to widen the streets, make them passable, open up parking where possible and to allow for more snow storage.”

Kearns acknowledged that there are narrow streets throughout town due to large snowbanks.

He says streets are prioritized based on a number of factors, including traffic volume, emergency access and accessibility.

If town staff are able to get caught up with their snow removal operations, Kearns says they will go back around and continue removing snow in anticipation of a spring melt.
