The Town of Parry Sound is adjusting the way residents will be penalized for contravening a municipal bylaw.
At a meeting on Feb. 18, council approved a new administrative penalty system, which will allow the municipality to enforce bylaws and certain matters under the Highway Traffic Act outside of the provincial court system.
These changes also provide the framework for the introduction of an automated speed enforcement system.
“It will be different than a traditional ticket that would move through the court system,” said Allison Kreuger.
“This system…allows the municipality to administer the whole process. It does make it mores streamlined and effective.”
Anyone who contravenes a municipal bylaw or gets caught speeding by an automated speed enforcement camera would receive a a monetary fine.
According to Kreuger, the penalty for speeding would also just be monetary.
“There are no demerit points associated with any type of automated speed enforcement system. Enforcement done through a camera system is just a monetary fine,” she said.
