Two men are facing drug and weapons related charges after fleeing from a RIDE program in Pointe au Baril.
Police say members of the West Parry Sound OPP and Anishinabek Police Service were conducting a ride check on Highway 69 on March 10.
According to police, a vehicle with five occupants was stopped around 11:30 p.m. and police initiated a Cannabis Control Act investigation with the driver, who was removed from the vehicle.
Police say, a rear passenger then entered the drivers seat and began to drive away. Two passengers attempted to exit the vehicle prior to it leaving but were unsuccessful.
A spike belt was later deployed to bring the vehicle to a halt. Police say the driver then attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested.
As a result of the incident, a 27-year-old from Toronto and 31–year-old from Brampton are each facing more than 20 charges, including possession of cannabis, flight from a peace officer, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm and more.
They are both slated to appear in Parry Sound Court on March 17.
