Gridlock at West Parry Sound Health Centre cleared

The gridlock at the West Parry Sound Health Centre has been cleared.

A ‘gridlock’ is when all inpatient beds at the hospital are full, preventing emergency department patients from being moved to a bed, leading to overcrowding and delays.

Officials say the local hospital successfully cleared its Code Gridlock status on March 19 and returned to normal operations. The hospital had been operating at ‘well above 100% percent capacity since 10 a.m. on March 15 when Code Gridlock status was enacted.

Officials say traditional care spaces are now fully operational, and overflow areas have resumed normal functions.
