Georgian Bay Biosphere launches new ‘Grown by the Bay’ guide

The Georgian Bay Biosphere has launched a new edition of the Grown by the Bay guide.

The guide features local growers from Carling, McDougall, McKellar, Parry Sound, Seguin, Whitestone and eastern Muskoka, selling everything from fruit and vegetables to maple syrup, honey, meat, and dairy.

“The Grown by the Bay guide is one way the Biosphere supports an ongoing effort for local food systems” says Delaina Arnold, Community Programs Manager with the Georgian Bay Biosphere.

“Individual action matters. If we each do our personal best to buy locally and grow what we can ourselves, these actions really add up to contribute to a sustainable food system that supports businesses in the community, reduces ‘food miles’ (the fuel used to transport food), and enhances community resilience.”

Officials say the guide, first created in 2014, provides a one stop shop directory for learning about local food options.

This year’s guide features 20 producers – 11 of which are new to the guide – as well as a map highlighting 11 area farmer’s markets.

You can download a free PDF version of the Grown by the Bay Guide and check out the online Local Food Map at georgianbaybiosphere.com.

Printed copies are available at the Biosphere office at 125 William St. in Parry Sound.
