The complete reconstruction of a portion of Wood and Isabella Streets has been approved by council.
At a meeting on April 15, council accepted a $3.4 million bid for the work.
Director of Public Works Mike Kearns, says the project includes the reconstruction of Wood Street from Isabella to Marion Ave, and Isabella Street, from Wood Street to Winnifed Ave.
“The scope of the project grew considerably when we started assessing the condition of the existing infrastructure and the need to realign of the different intersections,” he said. Certainly fixing the road from the tracks to Winnifred was obviously something that is in dire need for anyone that has driven through that section.”
Kearns says the project will re-align the intersection of Wood and Isabella, upgrade the water main between the train tracks and Winnifred Ave., and improve storm drainage in the area, among other things.
He also says the project took a lot longer to organize then they had hoped, as they had to deal with CN Rail, CPKC and Transport Canada officials.
