Shamrock Novices fall to Otters in home opener

The Parry Sound Shamrock Optimist Club Novice team hosted the Huntsville Otters in their 2016/2017 season home opener at the BOCC last night.

The Shamrocks came out strong early in the first minute of the first period with Lewis Hergaarden fighting off the Otters to get a breakaway shot on goal and finally burying his rebound.  The Shamrock’s strong forecheck allowed them to keep their opposition off the scoreboard for the first period.

The Otters came out stronger in the second period scoring four quick consecutive goals and taking the lead, but the Shamrocks kept the pressure on and narrowed the gap with a second goal by Lewis Hergaarden, assisted by Ben Kearns and Luke Nelson.

Leading 4-2 going into the third period, the Otters gained momentum scoring three times, but gave up an unassisted goal to Shamrock defenseman Mitchell Parrick with a booming slapshot from the top of the circle. Despite their strong efforts, the Shamrocks fell 7-3 to the Otters.

The Shamrocks head to Haliburton this Saturday for a double-header against the Highland Storm.
