Veterans to be honoured with special banners in Parry Sound next year

Officials with the Parry Sound Community Remembrance Project are overwhelmed with the amount of support and outreach they have received.
Over November, residents were offered an opportunity to pay $100 to have a banner created to honour a veteran.
The group received requests for 108 different veterans, which comes out to 54 banners that have a veteran on each side.
These banners will be hung up along the streets of downtown Parry Sound next October to prepare for Remembrance Day.
Parry Sound High School Vimy 100 Trip Leader Richard Lund says there is a wide diversity of vets being honoured, from WWI all the way to people currently serving.
Mayor Jamie McGarvey says he is happy to see so many community members came forward to honour these veterans in a special way.
There are discussions to feature these banners at the Museum on Tower Hill next March.
Officials have also received more requests to create new banners, which they will consider for next year.
This project was a joint effort between Parry Sound High School, the Town of Parry Sound, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Downtown Business Association and Museum on Tower Hill.
