Bruce Power will have to pay up after being fined $110,000 by an Ontario judge on Wednesday, December 6th, 2017
A worker at the Bruce “B” Nuclear Generating Station at Lake Huron was injured last February after flames erupted while he and fellow crew members were drilling a hole during equipment maintenance.
After conducting an investigation, the Ministry of Labour found that escaping hydrogen gas had ignited, burning the worker.
The manufacturer of the equipment GE, had technical information available about the dangers of escaping hydrogen during that type of maintenance, and the correct procedure to follow when working with the dangerous gas.
Owen Sound Justice of the Peace, Michael Cuthbertson found that Bruce Power failed to provide that information to the work crew.
