OPP LAUNCHES OPERATION SAFE TRUCKING

New OPP numbers show that truck drivers are at fault for 65 percent of all truck related crashes in Ontario.

Operation Safe Trucking is a 5 day safety blitz the Ontario Provincial Police is launching this week to combat distracted and unsafe truck drivers.

As part of their patrol, OPP officers will be riding in transport trucks, getting a better view of drivers that shouldn’t be on the road.

This year alone, the OPP has responded to 6,252 transport truck-related crashes. 87 people have lost their lives in 72 of those collisions.

According to their numbers, 65 percent of those crashes were the fault of the truck driver.

West Parry Sound OPP Constable Kyle Ney says drivers can help police nab some of these offenders.

Things like speeding, impaired driving, and following too close will be targeted during the blitz that ends Friday December 15th.
