PARRY SOUND HIGH SCHOOL AND LOCAL OPP CONDUCT OPEN FORUM FOR YOUTH

Parry Sound High School will be holding a special event this morning to discuss sensitive issues confronting today’s youth.

Calling it an open dialogue, West Parry Sound OPP will be presenting guest speaker, hockey coach Paulie O’Byrne, a victim of sexual and drug abuse himself,

O’Byrne will provide an open forum so students can freely discuss topics such as physical and sexual abuse, as well as drug abuse.

O’Byrne is the founder of the “I’m 1 in 5 Movement”.

OPP Constable Frank Gardell describes what inspired him to invite O’  Byrne as guest speaker.

Constable Gardell hopes the event will lead to a series of dialogues in high schools within in the Parry Sound region to combat all forms of abuse confronting today’s youth.

Constable Gardell  acknowledges the support of the Town of Parry Sound, West Parry Sound OPP Detachment, Ontario Provincial Police Association Head Office in Barrie and Branch 12 South, Victim Crisis Assistance Referral Service in Parry Sound, Ontario Public Service Employees Union, and the Parry Sound Fire Department for making this event happen.

Today’s event, for Parry Sound High School students only, begins at 10 this morning.
