Concert ticket rip-offs should be a thing of the past in Ontario.
That’s if new legislation passed by the Ontario government last week does its job.
The Strengthening Protection for Ontario Consumers Act will shut down ticket bots, automated online ticket buying sites that gobble up concert tickets and then re-sell them at sky-high prices.
The new law will also target shady deals in the booming housing market as well as fraud in the travel business.
New rules for the travel industry target out-of-province businesses by regulating advertising and requiring individual salespeople to register with the government.
New home buyers will now have two government agencies to oversee their purchase, one for new home warranties, and another for new home builders and vendors.
