You may be preparing for Santa at home, but NORAD will be taking care of Santa while he’s riding in his sleigh.
Major Kathleen Leaton, Mission Crew Commander at CFB North Bay, along with her crew will be monitoring Canadian skies including the Parry Sound region over the Christmas weekend.
Because Santa’s sleigh is not a regular aircraft, Major Leaton says she and her crew have to treat it as an unidentified aircraft at first.
CFB North Bay is home to the Canadian Air Defence Sector, the Canadian wing of the North American Aerospace Defense Command or NORAD, which protects the skies over North America.
To help them track Santa, Major Leaton says they know where he’s headed.
If you’re trying to spot Santa as he rides into Parry Sound, Major Leaton says it’s best just to be in bed early on Christmas Eve.
