Ann MacDiarmid Contributes Her Success to Positive Campaigning

Ann MacDiarmid says it’s “a win for positive campaigning and truth in politics.”

She was elected Mayor of Seguin on Monday. During her campaign, she focused on keeping taxes low, improving the Township of Seguin’s infrastructure, and the environment.

MacDiarmid revealed that some of her infrastructure plans could attract businesses to Seguin. One of the key components, she says, was allowing affordable high-speed internet throughout the area.

“I believe that that will not only help home and small based businesses but it will enable learning for students. They badly need access to the internet to complete what high schools give them as homework now. The internet will assist people who do business in Seguin,” she says.

The second piece of infrastructure she says she will focus on is the extension of the natural gas pipeline south from the Crofter’s Plant to the business development park at the airport. “That will facilitate small business and make heating more affordable for a lot of people,” she says.

MacDiarmid also expressed the importance of preserving our pristine landscape by working closely with local Watershed Councils and the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Association. This is to ensure that the lakes and forests are being properly cared for.

The mayor also says strengthening the current septic inspection program is very important.  She wants to ensure inspectors are properly trained and she wants to ramp efforts to create a more rigorous program.

MacDiarmid also says she feels reassured by her community that campaigning on a positive note is important and popular. “I think my win is a strong endorsement for truth in politics.”
