OPP arrest three on impaired driving charges

The OPP have issued three unrelated impaired driving charges within the last seven days.

On November 18,  the West Parry Sound OPP was on patrol on Bay Street in Parry Sound. Shortly after 1 a.m., a vehicle was observed travelling around town in a lost manner.

As a result, the vehicle was stopped and an investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol.

A  23-year-old man from Berry Mills, New Brunswick was arrested and charged with Driving with more than 80 mg. of alcohol in his blood.

The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Parry Sound Court on December 6, 2018.

His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for seven days.

The following day, November 19, the West Parry Sound OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on James Street.

Shortly after midnight, a vehicle was observed trying to avoid the R.I.D.E. stop. As a result, the vehicle was located and stopped. An investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol.

A 31-year-old man from Howland Township was arrested and charged with driving with more than 80 mg. of alcohol in his blood and driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at theParry Sound Court on December 6, 2018. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was driving was also impounded for seven days.

Earlier in the week, the OPP responded to a possible impaired driver at a gas station on Highway 400 in Seguin Township. Shortly after 9:30 p.m. a vehicle was observed parked at the gas pump and the driver was standing beside his vehicle. During the investigation, police seized an amount of suspected cannabis from the driver’s console and a large quantity of Canadian currency.

A 36-year-old man from North York was arrested and charged with care and control while impaired (Drug), possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 and Drive with cannabis readily available.

The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Parry Sound court on November 30, 2018. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialling 9-1-1 immediately.
