West Parry Sound OPP not responsible for death of bank robbery suspect: SIU

The OPP is not responsible for the death of a man believed to be connected to a bank robbery.

The Special Investigations Unit terminated its investigation after it ruled the man’s death was caused by a drug overdose and not by police.

West Parry Sound OPP officers visited the 22-year-old man at a local home in August after the Kawartha Credit Union on Church Street in Parry Sound was robbed. According to the SIU report, the man blocked police from getting inside saying he didn’t want to live and started banging his head on the floor. He then started convulsing and was taken to the hospital.

He died just over a week later, which led to the SIU getting involved. An autopsy found he had overdosed on a mix of cocaine and opioids.
