The G.M.H.L.’s 2019-2020 season is off to a fresh start with a twist this year.
The league announced earlier this summer that it has launched a Western Division of the league with four teams joining the league for this season playing out of Saskatchewan and Alberta with a fifth team a possible add early in the season.
G.M.H.L. President, Bob Russell in a press release says “the potential growth for this division is strong. Looking ahead to the 2020-21 season, several new ownership groups have submitted applications for expansion with momentum is continuing to grow.
The GMHL will now hold a National Championship, where the winner of the GMHL Ontario/Quebec will compete against the winner of the GMHL West for the National Title.
The South Muskoka Shield are on the road tonight (Thursday) in Alliston to play the Civics and then will have a home and home pair of games with the Almaguin Spartans Friday night at 7:30 in South River, then home Saturday at the Bracebridge Arena for a 7:00 p.m. start.
This season also sees the addition of new competition for the Spartans and Shield with the addition of the Bancroft Rockhounds
