Snowmobilers rescued by OPP after falling into the water

PARRY SOUND, ON-The Southern Georgian Bay OPP has rescued four snowmobilers after they fell into the water.

On February 29th, the OPP got a call at around 1:15 p.m. from a cottager saying that the accident happened off the southern tip of Beausoleil Island.

Officers and EMS members began assisting the four riders who had driven into a combination of heavy slush and open water.

The snowmobilers were brought to the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services Unit for treatment of hypothermia and were later released.

The OPP said that travelling on any ice surface is risky and never safe. In this incident, ice unfamiliarity was nearly fatal for these snowmobilers. If you plan to go out on the ice, you are advised to check with local businesses or snowmobile clubs to learn about ice conditions.
