Curling event raises money for military families

PARRY SOUND, ON-Over $14,000 was raised for military families during a curling tournament.

The 6th annual Curlers Care event on February 21st and 22nd raised $11,106.00 for the Military Resource Family Centre in North Bay that provides various services to veterans and active military and $3,389.00 for the Parry Sound District EMS Peer Support Group. 

The services available to families include helping work through PTSD, transitioning from military life and mental health assistance.

One of the organizers of the event, Tom Traversy said that the event started out as education for past and present members of the military to let them know that there are services available. “There are services out there and we want them to go get it,” said Traversy. 

The next event is already set for February 19th and 20th of 2021
