Council considering removal of Waubuno Road bridge

Parry Sound Council will be collecting public input before making a final decision on the future of the fitness trail bridge over Waubuno Road.

Town staff are recommending the bridge be removed to create a safe, useable level crossing, which will allow for future infrastructure servicing to the area.

However, some residents have pushed back against this recommendation, expressing a desire to keep the bridge in place.

Mayor Jamie McGarvey put forth a motion on June 18 to delay a council decision to collect as much feedback as possible.

“(We need) public consultation, to know what the design actually is, make sure committees are aware and any other interested parties as well, so we have feedback and understand and knowledge as what is going on here, because this does strike to the heart of a lot of people,” said McGarvey.

The topic will come back to council on Sept. 3.
