Huntsville MRI huge advancement for all of Parry Sound-Muskoka

The construction of the new 3,700-square-foot magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facility has officially started in Huntsville.

MPP Graydon Smith, who was on hand for a groundbreaking ceremony on July 10, said the project is a significant advancement for health care across the entire Parry Sound-Muskoka region.

“Residents of Muskoka, Almaguin and West Parry Sound will no longer have to travel for hours to access MRI,” said Smith. “Congratulations to the many people who helped make this a reality for our region.”

Cheryl Harrison, president and chief executive officer of Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC), said the new machine is going to help area residents get timely diagnostics.

“It has become a diagnostic tool more commonly used to diagnose things like cancer, cardiovascular disease and what we have been seeing in the province is a long waitlist. So, people sometimes are waiting months to get the MRI that they need,” she said.

The facility will be located behind the Emergency Department at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital. It’s scheduled to be completed next spring.
