The kindergarten playground at Parry Sound Public School is in dire need of repairs, according to volunteers on the parent advisory committee.
The playground has a drainage issue and turns into a giant puddle when it rains. According to Chantelle Link, chair of the Parry Sound Public School Parent Advisory committee, volunteers are working to raise enough funds to install a new playground.
“Kindergarten kids don’t have a playground. They have a sandbox and toys, but they don’t have any equipment to play on,” said Link.
Over the last three years the committee has held four bottle drives. A fifth bottle drive is being held on Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers will be out in front of the Beer Store collecting empties and cash donations.
All proceeds will go towards fixing the playground at the school.
As of Oct. 3, volunteers had raised $11,650 of their $100,000 fundraising goal.
“We have big ambitions,” said Link. “The goal is to have the money raised, so that when we are ready to go forward we have the funds available. There will have to be digging. We want to expand the yard about 150 feet, and they will have to address the drainage issue with the sandbox.”
