Parry Sound councillors are worried about what they’re calling slow response times from Lakeland Hydro officials during emergencies.
Town staff say a hydro pole on Edward Street caught fire at around 7 a.m. on Nov. 5 and that it took Lakeland Hydro crews nearly three hours to respond and deal with the situation.
Coun. Paul Borneman voiced concerns during a council meeting later that night, saying response times have been an ongoing issue since the Parry Sound Hydro merger with Lakeland in 2014.
“If we have a major fire downtown or in a large multi-residential building, what happened today just isn’t good enough. It is a safety issue for the firefighters and for the entire community,” he said. “We need to have this addressed.”
Council unanimously agreed with Borneman, and requested staff schedule a meeting with Lakeland officials to address the situation.
