Year-round ice at the Humphrey Arena?

Seguin residents hoping to skate year-round in Humphrey will have to wait a year.

At a council meeting on Feb. 3, staff pitched a one-year pilot project to leave ice in at the Humphrey Arena throughout April, May and June.

Staff said the project stems from community interest and from the results of an arena usage survey conducted earlier this winter.

Council discussed the matter and felt it wasn’t feasible to implement this year. Concerns around the arena’s preventative maintenance schedule, additional operational costs, and the required additional staffing were raised.

At council’s request, staff will dig deeper into the logistics of operating the arena year-round, seek out interested users, and report back in the fall.
