The Town of Parry Sound is looking to remodel the current taxi system and staff say that could mean de-regulation.
A report presented to council Tuesday night, states that the current taxi licensing process requires a great deal of staff time and resources to administer.
“Staff are always looking for ways to improve upon our services and evolve to meet the needs of our businesses and residents,” states the report. “In looking at the taxi licensing program, staff feel that there are opportunities for efficiencies to be found by de-regulating taxi services in the Town of Parry Sound.”
Staff say de-regulation, or a remodel of the current program, would provide more transportation opportunities to the community and give staff more time to focus on other by-law enforcement matters.
More details and options will be provided to council at a future meeting, including what would need to be done to allow the operation of ride-share services.
