The Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce has put a call out to all businesses to join an open round table discussion on US tariffs, counter tariffs, and the impact they could have on our local businesses and economy.
The discussion is slated for April 3 at the Chamber offices, located inside Canadore College at 1 College Drive. Daniel Tisch, president and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, and Ali Nasser Virji, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce director of policy, will be the guest speakers.
Local officials say they hope this will be the first of a series of discussions on what local businesses can do to prepare, safeguard and succeed during this unprecedented time.
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce released a statement on March 4, calling the decision to implement tariffs by the US administration “reckless.”
“Now is the time to double down on protecting our economic sovereignty and security. Recent announcements from the federal and provincial governments on internal trade are steps in the right direction, but what we do in this moment can’t be incremental, it must be transformational. To build a resilient, self-reliant and future-proof economy, we need to diversify our trade partners, revamp the tax and regulatory system, and do even more to streamline internal trade,” stated Candace Laing, president and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
“Canada is resource and talent rich. Our economic future is ours to determine — it’s time to join our economic strategy with concrete action to not only minimize the short-term damage but to chart a more prosperous path long-term.”
Registration for the round table discussion is required. More information can be found at psachamber.ca.
